FIRST ELVIS FAN CLUB 1956

He heard Elvis sing for the first time on a live radio broadcast from “Big D”. Jamboree in Dallas.
Kay was 16 years old.
Her aunt worked at KLIF radio station in Dallas and Kay went to visit her one day. The disc jockey who worked at the radio station didn’t know Elvis, but he had an album of his and he said to Kay, “You won’t believe the record I have in my hand… The singer has a very corny name, his name is Elvis Presley.” Kay came out in defense of her idol and said, “… Because all the girls are crazy about him… and I even thought about starting a fan club.”
D.J. laughed it off and later announced Kay’s name and address on the radio as a joke on the air. as president of the Elvis Presley Fan Club.
Almost immediately, Kay began receiving a large volume of letters to her home from girls who wanted to join the so-called club.

Kay was surprised to see this, daring to realize what was only an idea and started as a joke.
He wrote to Elvis’ manager Bob Neal, who sent his letter to Colonel Parker. Carolyn Asmus, the Colonel’s assistant, replied that they knew nothing about Elvis fan clubs and that the Colonel had told him to move forward with the club’s founding.
He also said that Elvis was doing a show in San Antonio and that he could meet Elvis there if he wanted to go.
And on April 15, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas, Kay would meet her idol and form the first Elvis Fan Club: The Nation’s First & Largest Elvis Presley Fan Club.
Thanks to Kay, fans could get closer to their idol and at the same time start another fan club anywhere in the world. It was a very important thing for Elvis because as we know Elvis wanted his fans first and foremost and he always cared for them, served them and gave them their love and their autograph.
