The most well known Elvis rendition of this song is undoubtedly that from 14 January 1973 in Hawaii. However, Elvis had been performing the song on stage for well over a year and the RCA live master comes from a Las Vegas dinner show on 17 February 1972. It was a further twenty three years and the release of Walk A Mile In My Shoes – The Essential 70’s Masters before that version could be heard.
However, there is a previously officially unreleased rendition by Elvis, which is much better than either of those versions. That version is presented here in the wonderful sounding audio from the newly released On Tour box set.
Over the four shows filmed by MGM during production of Elvis On Tour, Elvis performed the song just once, in Richmond during the second of those four shows. This is my own personal favourite version of the song and what a treat if Turner/MGM turn out to have this on film!!
