“Thanks To The Rolling Sea” is far from the best, an honour which beyond doubt belongs to “Return To Sender”, nor the worst song contained within Elvis’ 1962 movie “Girls! Girls! Girls!”, but it does have the curiosity factor and charm of hearing Elvis sing acapella. The song was the last of the three recorded on 26 March 1962, at Radio Recorders’ Studio B in Hollywood, on the first of three consecutive days of soundtrack recordings for the movie. Of the ten takes that Elvis and the band recorded, only three are known to still exist, takes three, five and ten all of which have individually defined titles and differing lengths. Take three is one minute thirty five and known as “the orchestra version”, take five is the RCA master and record version, and the longest at one minute forty one with take ten, the movie version, the shortest at one minute twenty five.
