Recorded by Elvis in just a single take in Nashville on 7 June 1970, “Funny How Time Slips Away” remains one of Elvis’ finest recordings which sees Elvis in a laid back style but with an underlying feeling of menace which surfaces in the final verse and the threatening lyrics “that in time your gonna pay”. This, however never transferred to the stage version apart from around three versions, two of which were professionally recorded in Vegas during the dinner show of 22 August and midnight show of 25 August 1969, but these performances occurred almost a year prior to the studio recording.
