After training at Fort Hood, he was assigned to Presley 1. Private Medium Tank Battalion, 32nd Or Armored, 3rd Armored Division at Ray Barracks, Germany, where he served as an intelligence specialist.
On September 19, he left Fort Hood and made his way to Brooklyn Army Terminal in New York City. On this day, September 22, he would leave for Germany.
