They say Elvis is leaving town tonight so we went to the gate around 8 pm
Mr. Pepper was on guard and we went inside talking with him and the crowd outside the gates was huge.
It was about 30 minutes after we got there that Elvis came down to the gate driving the golf cart he wasn’t leaving town after all!
He was wearing a blue shirt, black pants and boots, of course, his belt and jewellery
Elvis hopped up onto the stump and nodded for Mr Pepper to open the gates and let the fans in since it was going to be another night of autographs and picture taking Daddy went across the street to the little convenience store and bought some MagiCubes for the camera.
Eventually, I worked my way up to the stump and asked Elvis “could I get a picture with you?” and he grinned real big and reached for my hand and helped me up on to the stump. Gosh….I wish they would trim the stump down a little more….. it sure is hard climbing in a dress!
So he helped me up on the stump and put his arm around my waist. We looked out to where mother was holding the camera and when she took the picture, the flash didn’t go off! Elvis asked her “Did ya get it?” and she shook her head no.
He just grinned and draped his arm around my shoulder and whispered something very sweet to me. He was just looking up at me after he said it and I just looked down at my feet. But the good thing was that my friend Dorise, had her camera and took several pictures of Elvis and me together. Thank you, Dorise! I hope they turn out!
Elvis helped mother up onto the stump and they had their picture taken together too. This time the flash did go off, thank goodness.
A few times when Elvis would kiss a girl, he would just roll his eyes. One time he told a girl “Honey, you need a mint. You been eating garlic?” He said to another girl “Ah kissed you an hour ago so you would leave!” ouch!
A few of Elvis guys were tossing firecrackers and Elvis jumped because he wasn’t expecting it. Then he said “Honest man I don’t have your wife up here!”
Elvis was handed anything and everything to sign. I got his signature on this one black and white publicity still. But someone handed him a real teeny piece of paper to sign, as they said that that’s all they had with them. Elvis said “You sure you can’t find anything smaller?”
About 9:45 Elvis said it was time to go to the house. Some of us regulars would sort of make a path so Elvis could at least get to his golf cart.. I was holding a bottle of Pepsi and Elvis said “Where’d ya get……” and a girl grabbed him and planted one on him. He just pulled away and hopped on the cart and left.
Word is that Elvis will be leaving this Sunday night.
