Elvis performed on The Steve Allen Show, at The Hudson Theater, on July 1, 1956 in New York City, for NBC.
Allen wanted to avoid the controversy that erupted after Elvis twisted his hips, sparking scandal on ‘The Milton Berle Show’ and made him stand in front of the TV audience dressed in a tuxedo singing Hound Dog to a basset hound mounted on a pedestal with a cup hat. This was one of Elvis’ biggest humiliations of his career.
