August 2 - Today in Elvis Presley History

August 2, 1955 Elvis performs in 2 shows ( 7:00 & 9:30 pm) at the Community Center in Sheffield, Alabama .

August 2, 1956 There is an article in “Life” magazine titled “Elvis Presley…He Can’t Be…But He Is.” The article reports that Elvis has grossed $6 million in record sales and that he is receiving 3,000 fan letters a week.

Elvis leaves for Miami , Florida in his new Lincoln.

August 2, 1960 Elvis begins horseback- riding lessons each afternoon for the next 2 weeks in preparation for his role in Flaming Star.

August 2, 1965 Elvis arrives at Paramount for preproduction on the film Paradise Hawaiian Style a week late . After a cast insurance medical exam and wardrobe fittings he goes to Radio Recorders at 2.00 p.m. to do some vocals on some previously recorded instrumental tracks. He leaves the studio at 2.30 a.m.

August 2, 1969 Elvis performs in 2 shows ( dinner and midnight ) at the International Hotel in Las Vegas , Nevada .

August 2, 1971 Elvis closes his Tahoe engagement with a Dinner and Midnight shows .

August 2, 1972 The rehearsals for opening night continues for all in the showroom of the Las Vegas Hilton.

August 2, 1975 Elvis and and a group of friends attends the Memphis Grizzlies opening football game . Later in the evening he goes to the General Cinema in Whitehaven .

August 2, 1976 Elvis performs at the Civic Center in Roanoke, Virginia.
