March 16 , 1956 Elvis and the band take a flight from Atlanta , Georgia to to New York City arriving at 4.03 p.m.
March 16 , 1957 Elvis receives a phone call from his parents telling him they have found the ideal home, called Graceland .
March 16 , 1971 Dr. Nick and Dr. Meyer, an ophthalmologist fly in from Memphis . Dr Meyer treats Elvis at the hotel before admitting him to Nashville’s Baptist Hospital, a diagnosis of iritis and secondary glaucoma is confirmed. Barbara Leigh and Tennessee governor Winfield Dunn visit him at the hospital .
Felton Jarvis resumed work at the studio overdubbing background vocal in anticipation of Elvis’ return.
March 16 , 1974 Elvis performs at the Mid – South Coliseum in Memphis . This is first performance in Memphis since 1961 he does 4 shows in 2 days to meet the demand for tickets. The Colonel added a fifth one, the perfect occasion for a live homecoming album and to avoid having to coax Elvis back into the studio. Elvis seems happy and mildly amused to be there when he addresses the audience “Hello Memphis. It’s good to be home”.
