It was taken by a friend of the family and given to me a long time ago. The backstory is, our friend worked at the Parks-Belk department store here in Memphis. When Elvis lived on Audubon Drive (just a couple of blocks from Parks-Belk) he would come in to shop for clothes. She had seen him a couple of times before she thought to bring her camera with her. It paid off when he came in to shop and she managed to get this really nice photograph of him surrounded by other “shoppers” (stalkers, more likely–ha!). I don’t know the exact date for this photo, however. It appears to be in cooler weather–you can just make out Elvis wearing a white scarf under his jacket.
