Elvis’ Black Sapphire Ring. The ring is made of solid 22k yellow gold with ornate shoulders with fleur de lis details and a large 18.5mm black sapphire. The ring is stamped “90%” on the underside and is an incredibly rare example of a piece of Elvis’ jewelry in 22k gold. The ring was eventually given by Elvis to Sam Thompson, who was Elvis’ good friend and personal bodyguard. Sam Thompson met Elvis in 1972 when Elvis was dating his sister, Linda Thompson, and Sam was working as a police officer in Memphis. According to Sam Thompson’s recollection, “On August 7, 1977 Elvis rented Liberty Land Amusement Park in Memphis as a gift for his daughter Lisa Marie. That night, while riding the wooden roller coaster, Elvis called me over and handed me a ring for safekeeping. He said he didn’t want to lose it on the ride. Later when I tried to return the ring, he just smiled and tole me to keep it.” The ring sold at auction in August 2022 for $35,000
