It is now known that there were actually 2 almost identical jumpsuits made for these 2 very special concerts. One was slightly bigger than the other and Elvis wore the bigger one for the ‘Alternate’ show.
The original full length cape was considered too cumbersome for Elvis and also likely to cause safety issues, so the original full length cape was never actually used, although from one of the photos below Elvis does actually wear it during stage rehearsal. Another shorter, lighter cape was quickly made to be ready for the 2 concerts.
An identical original belt was also quickly rushed to Hawaii after Elvis gave the original belt to the wife of the actor Jack Lord the night before the ‘Alternate’ concert, before Elvis even got to wear it himself. It is now known of course that a 3rd cape and 3rd belt would be made after the actual satellite telecast concert as Elvis would give both items to members of the audience during the concert. Both jumpsuits are now on display at Graceland with the original long cape.
