The photos show Elvis getting his hair cut at “Jim’s Barber Shop” at 201 Shouth Main Street in Memphis, TN. The photos were taken by journalist Lloyd Shearer in the last week of July 1956, for an assignment for Parade magazine, for which he was West Coast correspondent. Elvis is reading a monographic magazine which, as we can see, is about himself.
Years later, one of the barbers recalled that he couldn’t sweep the floor that day because of all the teenagers running in to get Elvis’ haircuts.
Jim’s Barber Shop was demolished and no longer exists today.
