Elvis Presley – Shout It Out

One of the recurring themes that resonate throughout many of Elvis’ mid sixties movie soundtracks, was that there are songs that only seem to fit in context with the movie, and as such seem to make little sense in isolation. However, with “Shout It Out”, the reverse seems to be applicable as it is a song which seems to fit into an era far beyond that being depicted on screen. It is essentially a mid twentieth century style pop song which has been shoehorned into a musical set in the latter part of the nineteenth century, possibly with the soundtrack album in mind.It was recorded by Elvis on 13 May 1966 at Radio Recorders’ studio B in Hollywood and was the fifth song recorded during this first day of soundtrack recordings for the movie. The seventh and final take was chosen as the master which incidentally was the only complete take achieved.
