Elvis, always in the mood for fun, puts on Colonel Parker’s hat as a joke. But the Colonel (in the foreground) ignores him.
Elvis in this image, photographer Alfred Wertheimer tells us, was entertaining his fellow travelers with an amusing impersonation of Colonel Parker. He took the colonel’s hat, tilted it to one side and began to give orders to everyone with an exaggerated southern accent, imitating his gestures and way of speaking. The Colonel, oblivious to everything, continued speaking. Elvis simply shrugged and put the hat back on the rack.
