He made 6 total appearances on this show beginning in January shortly after his 21st birthday. Heartbreak Hotel was released in late 1955 but when Elvis performed it on this show during his third appearance it sent the song straight to number one on all charts and was the first song to top the pop, r&b and country chart all at the same time. Many people couldn’t describe Elvis’ style of singing as it was so unique so they often labelled his music as country, r&b or rock music with a variety of names like “rockabilly” or “hillbilly bop.” One concert poster labelled him as “The unique atomic-powered singer.”
