Elvis Aaron Presley’s stillborn twin brother, Jesse, was born first and the doctor wasn’t sure if the second child would even survive. But Elvis, who was born about 30 minutes later, was alive and well.Jesse was buried the next day in an unmarked grave in Priceville Cemetery near East Tupelo, Mississippi. Gladys never quite got over his death and she always made it a point to remember him as a family member, talking about him as if he were alive and wondering what Jesse would do if he were alive.The loss of Jesse made Gladys very protective of Elvis and she lived in constant fear that he might be taken from her too. It is possible that Elvis’ quest for success was caused by wanting to prove his own worth to his mother.In any case, Elvis somehow grew up in the shadow of his dead brother and Gladys made him seem so real that in later years Elvis was sure he could talk to Jesse and that he was with him on tour and at Graceland.
