Plot: Charlie Rogers (Elvis Presley) sings nightly as a solo entertainer in “Mother’s Tea House”, a student bar. He also includes references to his audience in his verses, which one day get him into a real fight. He gets on his motorcycle and roars away. On the way, a jeep pushes him off the road. In the jeep are Cathy Lean (Joan Freeman), her vigilant and jealous father, and the owner of a fairground contractor, Maggie Morgan (Barbara Stanwyck). Charlie is joined by Cathy and hired by Maggie as a henchman (Roustabout) at the carnival. The fairground, which is on the verge of bankruptcy, thrives again when Charly begins to sing.
