Elvis Presley arrives in Germany

Elvis was ordered to Germany as part of a NATO mission and did his military service in Friedberg, Hesse.

After the draft on March 24, 1958 and the subsequent basic military training, Elvis Presley boarded the troop transport USS Randall on September 22, 1958 in Brooklyn. The ship cast off on the same day and reached its destination Bremerhaven in Germany on October 1, 1958.

After the USS Randall moored at Columbuskaje and Elvis left the ship at 09:22, the uniformed King Of Rock ‘n’ Roll was greeted euphorically by countless German fans and press representatives

On October 3rd, 1958, Elvis boarded a special train from the Federal Railroad that was to take him to Friedberg in Hesse. Here Elvis started his foreign assignment in the Ray Barracks. After the rock star received permission to live outside the base, Presley rents a house at Goethestrasse 14 in the neighboring town of Bad Nauheim.
