When Elvis bought Graceland, Billy and his wife, Jo, moved into a three-bedroom house within the mansion’s grounds. A few years later, Billy Smith and Jo moved to another house and the old house was used as a warehouse. Elvis hired a carpenter to repair the falling porch. As agreed, the carpenter would come back a few days later to paint the porch.
Around this time Elvis developed a great taste for horseback riding and decided that there was not enough space for his horses at Graceland. It was decided that the house would be demolished.
Elvis took the small Caterpillar that Vernon used in the gardens , put on the football helmet and for two hours straight worked on the demolition of the house and it was not working , so frustrated , Elvis gave up the vehicle and asked Alan Fortas to provide the biggest Caterpillar that it could find, a D -9
Alan got the machine and ELVIS asked the operator to “drive” , put his helmet back on and Billy sat in the back. When everything was ready, Vernon appeared shouting: “Wait a minute! I want to go get it! Elvis laughing said: “okay dad, you have five minutes” Vernon entered, in despair, entered the house to try to take some things, five minutes later, it was the first impact.Elvis and Billy hit the house and Vernon left running and complaining, then Elvis made three more attacks and the house was totally demolished. After that, they burned and buried it.
A few days later, the carpenters arrived with paint cans and brushes to finish the job and asked: “where is the house?”
What House? said elvis
How well that house??? they said!!!
They asked the same question to Vernon who joined in the joke and said “I don’t know what they’re talking about… there wasn’t any house here!!! Hahaha
