On August 14 1958 Gladys Love Smith Presley passed away at the age of 46… Here are some great pictures of Vernon & Gladys at The Speer Studio in Memphis in July 1955… The second and third picture are new to me. Elvis is still looking great. A year later, when her son became a superstar, her health started declining. She started abusing alcohol and medication because she couldn’t cope with her sons succes. She was so affraid that she would lose him. Gladys lost Jessie Garon at birth and didn’t want this to happen again. Gladys passed away on August 14 1958 during Elvis’ nasic training at Fort Hood – Texas. Elvis wasn’t with her! He was resting at Graceland when he got a call that his beloved mother has passed away!
