1942

After volunteering for the U.S. Army Air Corps, Glenn Miller played his last concert as a civilian at the Central Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey. For the next two years he traveled throughout Europe and the U.S. raising troop morale with his Glenn Miller Army Air Force band.

September 27, 1957

At Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Buddy Holly and the Crickets began two days of recording sessions that produced the tracks “You’ve Got Love,” “Rock Me My Baby,” and “Maybe Baby.”

Elvis drove to Tupelo with Anita Wood and his parents and some friends. In the local paper Elvis was called “the best ambassador any town could have” and urged all townspeople to give him a warm welcome.

Elvis performed at the Fairgrounds, Tupelo, for the benefit of the planned Elvis Presley Youth Center. There was a crowd of 12,000 people and Elvis wore his Gold Lame Jacket.

1960 – Elvis Presley’s father, Vernon, visited him on the set of “G.I. Blues.” 

September 27, 1966

Elvis went to Paramount for pre-production for Easy Come, Easy Go. He attended a music meeting with Hall Wallis and John Rich, director.

1969 – Elvis Presley’s single “Clean Up Your Own Back Yard” hit #21 in the U.S. 

September 27, 1974

An obviously drugged Elvis accidentally falls to his knees while leaving the limo for tonight’s show at the University of Maryland, then gives a decidedly lackluster performance.
