September 21, 1953

Elvis returned to Precision Tool company, operating a drill press for $1.55 a hour. He continued to work there until March 19, 1954.

Elvis worked at Crown Electric for $1.00 an hour. He delivered supplies to the job sites and hoped to train to be an electrician. He stayed at Crown until mid-Oct

 Elvis Presley was appointed “special deputy sheriff” in Shelby County, Tennessee. Elvis, always drawn to uniforms and badges, told Sheriff Bill Morris: I’ve always been interested in law enforcement and in fact even applied for a job as a Memphis policeman at age of 19.

Elvis signed a lease for one year for an very modern house in Palm Springs.

Elvis was visited by Lisa-Marie, who flew into Palm Springs along with Elvis’ dentist Max Shapiro.

At Graceland, Elvis begins storyboarding the karate movie project, now entitled “The New Gladiators”. Envisioning the project as a metaphor for mankind defending the defenseless, the proposed final scene is described thusly: “On a remote hill the camera is on a close-up of Elvis as he stands in fighting stance. The camera zooms back… and we see what looks like (an army of fellow martial artists) doing the moves with him. He then does the Lord’s Prayer in Indian sign language as a soft wind gently blows around him. The picture ends with ‘The Beginning’ written across the screen.”
