Plot: After the death of his father, Ross Carpenter (Elvis) works as a fisherman and captain for tourists who want to fish off Hawaii when he gets into financial difficulties and fate takes its course. By chance he meets Laurel Dodge (Laurel Goodwin) and only learns much later that she is a daughter from a rich family. After his final breakup with nightclub singer Robin, he’s free for Laurel. After a few mistakes, there is of course a nice happy ending between the two.
A film that provided the pattern for a number of other Elvis films. Hawaii is, of course, the location for an Elvis film, and the songs fit beautifully with the exotic setting. The audience went along with it and also bought the soundtrack album diligently.
