His ex-daughter-in-law Priscilla Presley and his granddaughter Lisa Marie Presley visit him in hospital. From Vernon Presley’s January 1978 exclusive interview to Nancy Anderson of “Good Housekeeping”, the interview was first published in the January 1978 issue: “As the daughter of an Air Force officer, Priscilla was raised to be disciplined and strong-willed, but she’s also a tender and loving girl. I think Elvis’ marriage to her simply failed because he realised after the wedding that he didn’t really want to be married. When he was travelling, it was impractical for Priscilla to accompany him all the time, especially after Lisa was born. These separations put a strain on their relationship. I would like to emphasise that although Elvis often had to leave her, he was crazy about his little daughter Lisa and she adored her father. When Lisa wasn’t at school and he wasn’t travelling, she would come to Memphis and they would play together for hours at Graceland.
Vernon died of heart failure in June 1979, almost two years after Elvis’ death.
