Elvis on the Milton Berle Show 1956

In 1956 Elvis made two appearances on the Milton Berle Show. On April 3rd, 1956, the King Of Rock ’n‘ Roll appeared on the show for the first time

The first appearance on the Milton Berle Show was to take place on board the aircraft carrier USS Hancock. It was sent from the San Diego Navy Port. In addition to Elvis Presley, comedian Esther Williams, musician Arnold Stang and the Harry James Orchestra with Buddy Rich were guests on this show.

After successful rehearsals, together with host Milton Berle, Elvis presented his current hits “Shake Rattle And Roll”, “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Blue Suede Shoes” to the audience

The second engagement took place on June 5th, 1956 in the N.B.C. Studio, Burbank, California. After the first rehearsals on June 4th, it was decided to let Elvis appear on the show with the songs “Hound Dog” and “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You”.

Host Milton Berle was one of the few show moderators who had a positive attitude towards Elvis and who found nothing offensive about his movements on stage.

The energetic version and the lyrics of “Hound Dog”, paired with Elvis movements, caused a lot of euphoria and loud screeching among the teenagers in the audience

After the engagements in the two shows, Elvis and his manager Colonel Parker thanked Milton Berle with a double-sided poster.
