October 18, 1956: Elvis stopped for gas in downtown Memphis and as usual he was quickly surrounded by fans. A man from the gas station didn’t like that and told Elvis to move on. When the man pulled a knife out, Elvis gave him a black eye. Elvis was booked on charges of assault and battery and disorderly conduct.
Gulf service station employees Edd Hopper and Aubrey Brown appeared to the court too. Charges against Elvis were dismissed. Hopper and Brown both had to pay fines.
