Elvis in 1951, at age 16, with his cousin Bobby James Smith (1941-1968), in the photo booth at Loew’s State Theatre, on Main Street, Memphis, where Elvis worked as an usher.
Bobby was Elvis’s first cousin, the son of Gladys’ older brother Travis and Lorraine Smith. Bobby was 6 years younger than Elvis and grew up with him in Tupelo. Bobby’s family also went with the Presleys when they first moved to Memphis, in the face of dire poverty.
Bobby was in a serious accident in 1961. He was run over in front of Graceland. He was twenty years old. Elvis was always with him and was always part of his life.
After that, he tried to work in various places, but his legs were badly damaged and he couldn’t stand for long.
He got married a couple of times, had kids, but it didn’t work out. He couldn’t hold a steady job. His life became very miserable.
On September 13, 1968, Bobby took rat poison. His brother Billy took him to the hospital and
they gave him a stomach pump, but that night, he passed away. He was twenty-seven years old.

Bobby Smith was my daddy and I was just trying to find out more information on him.
