Bill Murray remembers Elvis’ funeral

Actor & comedian Bill Murray attended Elvis Presley’s funeral on August 18, 1977. Now the Hollywood star remembers this sad moment in an interview.

“I was on a bus before this whole procession. It was impressive to witness all of this. Hundreds of thousands of people stood in the street on this very hot day just to take a look at the coffin.”

Murray goes on to report that he arrived at Forest Hill Cemetery very early and there was a huge commotion as many fans and press representatives wanted to gain access to the cemetery. When he was walking across the cemetery a short time later, the convoy arrived with Elvis’ coffin and the police escort.

Bill Murray literally: “When I arrived I was walking across the cemetery until police officers on motorcycles suddenly arrived. They looked at me as if they were saying, ‘If you move, we’ll kill you.’ The convoy drove by and the mourners stared at me and pointed at me. ‘Oh my god, they got me,’ I thought. But then I realized that they were pointing to the grave of Elvis ‘mother, which I happened to be standing next to. It was a very emotional moment. “
